What is Web Development?
Web development is the process of making your dream website or product a reality. It goes beyond great design (although we do that too). Web development is the territory of programmers and coders who put everything in place behind the scenes to make the finished website or product function seamlessly.
Our team have experience in developing a range of online products including:
- WordPress Themes & Plugins
- eCommerce Stores
- Content Management Systems (CMS)
- Customer Relationship Management Software (CRM)
- Web Applications
- API’s and API Integrations
- 3D Product Builders
Every business is different and so every KIJO-designed site is unique. We won’t shoehorn your site into a readymade template. With an in-house team of developers who are crafty at coding, we have the skills to build any web project that you can dream up.
Great bunch of people. Very knowledgeable, helpful, creative and capable. They have worked on a complex programme of work including software design and development, web design and digital marketing and the results are first rate. I've high hopes for the application I now have, and the KIJO team continue to be good humoured in the face of my endless demands of them. Highly recommended!

Transforming ideas into reality
The process of web development begins with your idea. What you want your website to do and how your customers will use it. We always make a point of getting to know you and your business before getting started on your site. That way, we can get it right for you from the word go – and give you a finished product as individual as your company.
After chatting through your ambitions, it’s over to our web designers and developers to get started on your new website. First up, we draw up a sitemap, establishing the key pages of your site and how visitors will navigate between them. Then we move onto the wireframes – the skeleton of your website. Wireframes block out the basic structure of your site, page layout and navigation before we add the fancy bits!
It’s important to get the fundamental structure of the site perfect before moving onto the design – because having a gorgeous website isn’t any good to you if it doesn’t function effortlessly for your visitors.
At each stage of development we stay in touch with you to make sure we’re on track with your objectives. When you’re happy with the wireframes, our designers flesh out the visuals with colour, font and imagery. By this time our coders are itching to get their hands on the project! Now, it’s over to them.
Why choose KIJO?
Each website is individually coded to replicate the designs agreed on in the initial stages. At this stage of the process, we’ll often build your bespoke design into a CMS (Content Management System) such as WordPress. There are many advantages to doing this. WordPress is a user friendly CMS even for non-techy types so building this in gives you the option to manage aspects of your website in house once it’s completed. (Of course, we can continue to do it all for you if you prefer). What’s more, search engines love WordPress sites. Because they are well structured and regularly updated, WordPress sites tend to do very well at ranking on SERPs.
Our developers really know their stuff and nothing excites them more than getting their hands on the trendiest tech and using it to build impressive sites for our customers. They have knowledge of a wide variety of programming languages including:
- Ruby on Rails
At KIJO we pride ourselves on being able to use the right tool for job. We have experience using different frameworks and toolkits which enables us to create consistently great products:
- Node & NPM
- Twitter Bootstrap
- Zurb Foundation

Creating online experiences
User experience is at the heart of a successful website – so it’s handy that our team are experts in UX Design too. UX (User Experience) design is the process of enhancing your customers’ experience of your website, app or online product, by making it easier and more enjoyable to for them to use.
KIJO’s developers have the latest tech at their fingertips when it comes to building websites – and they’re pretty creative in applying them to create UX design that really works. Thanks to years of industry experience, we’ve also been able to collect a database of accurate information as to what creates memorable online experiences. This enviable combination of technical skill and behavioural insight means KIJO can give your customers a far better online experience than your competitors – and keep them coming back for more.
We take pride in the websites we create and want to make sure every single one is perfected to the best of our ability. Every site we build is fully tested by our meticulous team before we let it fledge into the big wide world. Pre-flight checks include:
- Real world website testing
- Speed and performance tests
- Browser, device & platform testing
- A/B split testing
- Heat maps
- Eye tracking
- Stress and breakage tests
Using the findings of the testing stage, we’ll keep implementing improvements until we, and most importantly you, are 100% satisfied. And our web design services don’t stop there. Because after we press the proverbial ‘big red button’ and set your site live, we’ll continue to monitor its performance against the criteria you set right back at the start of the project.
Built in optimisation
When we create a stunning website for you, we want it to be discovered as much as you do! At every stage of the coding and development stages we build in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) functions to ensure your customers can find, and enjoy, your new website. One element of this is making sure your site works flawlessly across mobile and desktop devices. All KIJO websites are built responsive as standard – so your customers can engage with your brand wherever they are.
Case Study: Crono
Crono is a cloud based Software as a Solution (SaaS) application which helps users submit and manage timesheets. Our brief started with conceptualising the technology stack, designing the user interface and then developing the application to completion. Read more about the Crono project here.
